I love watching leadership skills in action. Even when it's not in a business setting, I can spot entrepreneurial qualities and skills immediately and it always excites me to see it, and more so, to share it with you, my Seizing Happy® tribe of Legacy Makers.
This clip of a Shakira rehearsal is a perfect example. Here's what I see:
VISION
She’s clear on her vision. She guides the dancers in the very beginning on how to position their weight. "I want it to look like West Side Story" she gives examples of her vision so the team can capture it. She's clear on the hand placement by the hips... She knows exactly what she envisions for the choreography and she's clear in communicating it.
This is easier said than done. Sometimes we can see our business in our mind and feel it in our hearts, but we're not successful in clearly and tangibly communicating it to those who are helping us build it.
FUNssingment: Are you able to clearly articulate your vision for your business in a measurable way and with examples?
TRUST & DELEGATION
These are two very different elements in the video but they go hand in hand and are shown in the same clip so I'm just gonna pair them up.
Delegation. Notice the part of the video where she tells her dancers "you're going to have to come up with a really cool step - I'm not gonna come up with it- for my little (move)" She fully delegates this to her team she even makes it clear she's NOT going to come up with the "really cool step" to compliment her move. She gives the task to them AND she does so with expectations and guidance: she wants it to be fun and lively. There's no micromanaging because there is TRUST that they will play their part.
Trust. When you're working with a team, your trust in their ability to compliment your business begins with your trust in yourself to hire the right people and offer them the leadership needed to thrive inside your business.
